HinaMatsuriByNamikoAbe

See http://japanese.about.com/od/japanesecultur1/a/Hinamatsuri-Song.htm

All the following information is from Namiko Abe !!!!

I've copied it here for myself so that I can learn from it . .

"Hinamatsuri (Doll's Festival)" is held on March 3rd. This is a day to pray for young girl's growth and happiness. Here is a Hinamatsuri song called "Ureshii Hinamatsuri (Happy Hinamatsuri)." Click this link to listen to the Hinamatsuri song.
Akari o tsukemashou bonbori ni
明かりをつけましょう ぼんぼりに
Ohana o agemashou momo no hana
お花をあげましょう 桃の花
Go-nin bayashi no fue taiko
五人ばやしの 笛太鼓
Kyo wa tanoshii Hinamatsuri
今日は楽しいひな祭り

Let's light the lanterns
Let's set peach flowers
Five court musicians are playing flutes and drums
Today is a joyful Dolls' Festivall
"~ mashou (~ましょう)" is a verb ending that indicates the person's volition or invitation in formal situations. It is similar to the English expressions of "Let's ~."
* Ikimashou. 行きましょう。 --- Let's go.
* Hanashimashou. 話しましょう --- Let's talk.
Most families with girls display "hina-ningyo" (special dolls for Hinamatsuri) and dedicate peach blossoms to them. They are usually arranged on a five or seven-tiered stand covered with a red carpet. At the top are the Emperor and Empress. The next step contains three court ladies (sannin-kanjo), followed by five musicians (gonin-bayashi), two ministers (udaijin and sadaijin), and three servants ending the bottom row in a five-tiered display. There are also small pieces of furniture, small meal dishes, and other things. Here are some details for five musicians and two ministers.

HighTech OBGYN

Ishii-san : OBGYN Sanno Medical Plaza

March 15, 2006

I had just had the most outrageous OBGYN experience
When I got home, I asked my partner at the time,
"you wanna make a baby?"

The gynecologist was a young guy. Early 50s.
Great english for a Japanese person.
Tells me he's part Italian.
I don't believe him.

He has me sit in this great big comfy pink chair.

No stir-ups!
Some kind of curtain is pulled in place
in front of my lower extremities.
I don't see myself but I can see him
sitting on his stool in front of me.

If you want, you can draw a curtain in front of your face
so you don't even have to see him working on you.
The curtain amuses him, which would you prefer?
He pulls the curtain to an fro.
He suggests leaving it open.

He has to place those cold metal instruments in order
to get a pap. Explains everything so nothing comes as
a surprise. Then, for the ovaries . . . He doesn't
go sticking his whole hand up inside you to feel them
. . .

He places a wand inside you . . .

It doesn't go in very far at all.
You see it ALL on the computer monitor.
He explains, pointing here and there,
the ovaries, the eggs, the cervix, the wall of the
uterus,
the endometry stuff that's getting ready to shed.
He prints out some pics.

We sit, back at his desk, again.
He explains the pictures . . . the wall of the cervix,
the eggs, etc.

He said I have insides like a 21 year old,
5 eggs are getting ready for next month.
One big one ready to release this month . . .
He said I can have more babies . . .

Would you like to have more babies? He asks.
For a moment, I wonder, "You willing?"
I tell him, 'I'd need a a wealthy guy'
He doesn't make any offers.

He sends me home with a set of pics -
my future babies . . .
Like a proud mom to be,
I want to show these sonogram pictures to everyone

A Lament for Kichijoji

Late December 2006

Lament: cry for, bemoun, mourning for, wailing

lamenting for my kichijoji how i miss you kichijoji
the bike path along your river bank
past the small city of mitakadai
where i have enjoyed cherry blossoms overhead
carps and the occassional heron
lamenting for my home away from home
how i miss you, my kichijoji

I Found Japan in Orange County

I never cry when I leave America.

Perhaps I always know, I shall return.

I always cry when I leave Japan. Perhaps it's the uncertainty.

The last I see of Japan are the rice paddies.

I say good bye to the Chiba rice paddies from the train or the bus enroute to Narita.

When I return to Japan, the rice paddies welcome me home.

I never sleep on the journey. Neither to nor fro.

Childlike, I never want to miss anything.

Although the beaches welcome me home in America, the emotion doesn't produce the same effect.

Northwest of the Tappan Zee Bridge is a mountain that juts out into the Hudson. It reminds me of Kanagawa/Miura peninsula. Heading west over the Tappan Zee, I experience that same emotion. I'm home. Tadaima.

A young friend took me into Pine Island, the black dirt region of Orange County. I was so confused at first. I was speechless. I was dumbstruck. I was awed. The recall the very first moment I made the discovery. I was on a hill overlooking the land. I climbed atop a gate to get a better view. It was not possible to run down the hill to get a closer view. It was clearly private propery. All the while, I was thinking someone is growing rice !!! I was elated. I kept asked my guide, "is that rice?" I don't think he quite knew or else I simply didn't hear him. "Is that rice?" I asked again and again, like a child.

Suddenly, my mind began collecting data. This entire region is flat. The soil is rich. The area is completely irrigated. Sans machinery. Unlike Long Island. I don't believe I noticed the mountains in the background until a return visit but I had enough information to draw a conclusion.

I found Japan in Orange County!

I went in to work that Monday.

First thing in the morning, I announced, as if I shall never forget this weekend in my entire life, "This is the weekend I fell in love !!!"

There were several people presnet. My boss continued to gaze at a paper in his hand, his head tilted downward. He turned away quickly and headed for his office. I followed him. I stood in his doorway.

I announced again, "I've fallen in love!"

He continued to stare at the paper in his hand. I was certain I was making him nervous.

I walked into his office, on the opposite side of his desk I stood, directly in front of him. Still staring at the page he held in his hand. I exclaimed, asw if he didn't hear me the first time, "Hank, I've fallen in love. After a very brief pause, I continued, "I've fallen in love with Orange County!!!"

Perhaps he was relieved. His hand slowly lowered the page, his head titled upwards.
Then he looked my way with a a bit of a grin and said, "I hope she don't break your heart!"
